Organizers, residents air safety concerns

Organizers of a recent community information session in Clarke Square say the resources they offer can help residents make a safer and friendlier neighborhood.

Only a handful of residents attended “Hear your voice in Clarke Square,” a recent event sponsored by the Clarke Square Neighborhood Initiative (CSNI) that brought  law enforcement representatives and political leaders to the Milwaukee Christian Center, 2231 W. Greenfield Ave., to meet with residents and share information.

Undeterred by the small crowd despite distributing more than 3,000 flyers for the event, speakers discussed housing, jobs and safety, among other topics.

UPDATED: Milwaukee Council Moves Forward on Waukesha Water Request

The Milwaukee Common Council voted Tuesday without comment to effectively begin conversations with the Waukesha Water Utility as Waukesha looks to purchase Lake Michigan water. The resolution begins the study portion before the two communities enter into negotiations.

“The Common Council directs all city departments and agencies to cooperate with the Milwaukee Water Works, the Legislative Reference Bureau and the Department of City Development in providing all necessary information for studies of proposed water service agreements pursuant to this resolution,” states the resolution passed by the Milwaukee Common Council on Tuesday.

Wisconsin residents to benefit from Focus on Energy lighting sale

There are more lighting options now than ever. And for Wisconsin residents this is a good thing. They can now take advantage of energy-efficient lighting that is attractive, fits unique fixtures, and is available at a low price (discounts available while supplies last).

“It’s an exciting time for energy-efficient lighting,” said Linda Mae Schmitt with Focus on Energy. “CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) now come in warm tones, more than seven shapes, can be dimmable, and can work for outdoor lighting. The right lighting choice saves the consumer energy and money.”

Upcoming Cold Spring Park daytime walk

What: Neighborhood walk with Alderman Bauman

When: Thursday June 14 at 3 p.m.

Where: 3434 West McKinley Blvd.

Ald. Robert Bauman, neighborhood residents, Milwaukee Police Department officers and Department of  Neighborhood Service officials will be going on a neighborhood walk in the Cold Spring Park neighborhood.

This is just one walk in the series that Ald. Bauman has done in the last few years. It started after daytime burglaries in these reported areas: Cold Spring Park, Historic Concordia, Midtown, Merrill Park and Avenues West neighborhoods.
